Ed "Stewpot" Stewart

The staff and members of Hoebridge were saddened to hear of the sudden death of Ed "Stewpot" Stewart on Saturday 9th January 2016.  

Ed died at the age of 74, a few days after suffering a stroke.  Ed was best known as a BBC Radio DJ as well as a presenter of the children's programme Crackerjack in the 1970's.

Ed was a true lover of the game of golf and since 2011 he has been star auctioneer at the Hoebridge members Charity Day auction, helping to raise much needed funds for the members chosen charities such as Shooting Star Chase and Alzheimer's UK.

He will be sorely missed at this year's event and we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Adult & Junior Par 3 Winners at Hoebridge Golf Centre, Woking

Winston & Joshua Recardo, a father and son duo from Bexley Heath have won the annual Adult & Junior Par-3 Series final, staged at Hoebridge Golf Centre.

The pair, who play reguarly at another BGL venue, Birchwood Park, have been trying for 4 years to win the event and Joshua was determined to make this his year.

10 pairs made the cut for the final, following three preliminary rounds held at the public pay-and-play centre previously in the year.

The victorious twosome, Winston & Joshua finished on 66 points to beat Ellen & Jon Yates on 54 points and Richard & Tom Millard who scored 42 points points to take third.

Ross Orkney claimed the adults ’Nearest the Pin contest, while Ellen Yates took the honour for the juniors.

The annual Adult & Junior Par-3 Series, has been staged at Hoebridge Golf Centre – part of BGL Golf, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator – for the past eight years, providing young golfers with a fun and relaxed introduction to competition in familiar company.

Contested over Hoebridge’s Par 3 Short Course, with holes ranging from 72 to 185 yards, the layout provides junior golfers an opportunity to gain confidence, without the pressure of playing the full 18-hole Hoebridge Course.

Mike O’Connell, Hoebridge Golf Centre Senior General Manager, said: “The Adult & Junior Par-3 Series has continued to grow in popularity each year, becoming more and more competitive, which is good news for all participants.

“I’d like to offer my congratulations to Winston & Joshua for their consistently good golf throughout the series, and for overcoming hot competition on the day, adding their names to the list of victorious partnerships in this fun event.”
