What We Have Done So Far

Welcome to Hoebridge Golf Centre – Where Golf meets Sustainability!

At Hoebridge Golf Centre, we believe that enjoying the great game of golf can go hand-in-hand with protecting our planet. Our commitment to sustainability echoes through every inch of our facility, creating a vibrant and responsible golfing experience for all. Here’s how we’re making a difference with our innovative initiatives:

We are Carbon Neutral

At Hoebridge Golf Centre, we’re committed to playing our part in protecting the planet. Through years of focused effort and innovative sustainability initiatives, we’re proud to have achieved carbon neutral status across our entire site.

From reducing energy consumption and investing in renewable sources to restoring natural habitats and cutting waste, every step we’ve taken has been guided by our passion for preserving the environment we love. Our team has worked tirelessly to measure, minimise, and offset our carbon footprint — ensuring that the game of golf can thrive in harmony with nature.

EV Charging points

In 2024 we were proud to take another step toward a more sustainable future with the installation of EV charging points for our guests and members. By supporting electric vehicle use, we’re helping to reduce carbon emissions, improve local air quality, and encourage greener travel choices for everyone who visits our club. It’s a simple but meaningful way to make each visit part of a positive environmental impact.

Electric Greensmower

By switching to electric we have significantly reduced carbon emissions compared to using traditional petrol-powered machines, helping to lower our overall carbon footprint. They also operate more quietly, creating a peaceful environment for golfers and local wildlife alike. By switching to electric equipment, we’re using renewable energy sources where possible and taking practical action to protect our natural surroundings. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to make the game we love more sustainable for future generations.

Bird Boxes

We believe a healthy golf course starts with a healthy environment. That’s why we’ve recently installed a series of bird boxes around the course to provide safe nesting spaces for local bird species. These habitats help support biodiversity, encouraging a balanced ecosystem where birds can thrive. In turn, they help to naturally manage insects, pollinate plants, and contribute to the overall health of our green spaces.

Cardboard Water

Hoebridge Golf Centre is proud to take another step toward a more sustainable future by switching from plastic water bottles to eco-friendly cardboard alternatives. This change helps us significantly reduce single-use plastic waste, cutting down on materials that often end up in landfills or oceans. Cardboard bottles are fully recyclable and made from renewable resources, making them a cleaner, greener option for both our guests and the environment.

By making this simple switch, we’re helping to lower our environmental footprint and supporting a more circular, responsible approach to consumption — one that protects the planet for future generations.

Our Course & Natural Environment

Our facility sequesters 266.5 tCO2e annually, providing additional Natural Capital Value benefits. These include improved air and water quality, reduced air temperatures, and enhanced local flood resilience in an urban landscape featuring a combination of woodland and grassland habitat.

Energy

At Hoebridge Golf Centre, we’re proud to power our operations with 100% renewable electricity — ensuring that every light, mower, and clubhouse facility runs on clean, sustainable energy.

But our commitment doesn’t stop there. We’re also focused on reducing waste and maximising resource recovery:
– 22% of our waste is sent for energy recovery, where it’s converted into usable power rather than going to landfill.
– 10% of our waste is anaerobically digested, turning organic material into renewable biogas and natural fertiliser.

These steps help us lower our carbon footprint, minimise landfill use, and contribute to a more circular, sustainable future for our community and the game we love.

Water

We are working to reduce our water consumption in the clubhouse through installation of flow restrictors on taps and showers in the clubhouse and gym.
The golf courses are irrigated using water abstracted from the River Hoe in the winter during peak flows and stored in our reservoir to use in the summer, avoiding the need for mains water, or taking water from the River Hoe when flows are lower in the Summer.

£350,000

In 2010 we invested £350,000 to build this 37,500 meter cubed reservoir to enable us to irrigate our courses through renewable sources.

Waste

Hoebridge Golf Centre is proud to achieve zero waste to landfill, reflecting our strong commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management. Through our partnership with First Waste, we ensure that all waste is carefully sorted, recycled, or repurposed, helping to minimise our environmental impact and support a cleaner, greener future.

Pollution Prevention

We ensure hazardous materials are stored in bunded containers, and dispensed on a closed loop wash pad, containing any spills and using recycled water to wash equipment. We work closely with our licensed waste contractors to responsibly store and dispose of hazardous materials, minimising environmental impacts and improving the destination.
